Overview of June 21 - July 22, 2008
Cancer -- the builder, the architect, the mother, the "womb of time" -- these are some of the words used to describe this ancient and hidden Hierarchy of force. But before we enter into the Spiritual, we must first understand that Cancer is also the sign of mass consciousness, that state of instinctual awareness that combines desire and its automatic response to form/appearance in life. Up to this point in our evolution, humanity has functioned mostly on this level of mass (everyone thinks the same) consciousness. Currently, a new wave of force is developing within humanity's consciousness. This is the Soul force, and its characteristics are the "light" of intelligence, a new structuring of time, group orientation, and a desire to be of service to humanity. During the time of Cancer, a Soul-directed server on the Path will ask him/herself, "How can I strengthen the 'light' in the consciousness of the masses? How can I build my house of 'light' so that I can penetrate and strengthen the consciousness of the masses?"
This month, as the Sun transmits the light and energy of Cancer, our overall study is not to be focused only on the individual as s/he seeks to, "build a lighted house and therein dwell," but we are also to ponder what function this "lighted house" (the Soul self) will serve. If we consider the three previous signs -- Aries (mental impulse), Taurus (emotional desire), and Gemini (etheric network) -- in relation to Cancer, we find that these three signs are actually preparing Spirit's entrance into matter whereas in Cancer, the Spirit force, prepared in the three previous signs, actually enters matter. There are two bridges, or doorways, where Spirit either enters or exits matter. Cancer is called the bridge of entering, and Capricorn, Cancer's opposite sign, is the called the bridge of release. Because Cancer is the bridge where Spirit enters matter, it is called the "Great Mother" and the "womb of time."
In our last issue we spoke of the twelve signs in terms of the three different Crosses of experience (Mutable for personality growth, Fixed for Soul growth, and Cardinal for Spiritual growth). Cancer is one of the four cardinal signs -- along with Aries, Libra, and Capricorn. Cardinal energy signs initiate (begin) a new evolutionary subcycle (within larger cycles), or opening phase of experience; they bring consciousness to new levels of awareness and development. Therefore, they liberate us from a previous subcycle and initiate us into a new and higher level of expanded knowledge, comprehension, and understanding.
During this month we will be influenced by the rays that pour through Cancer -- Ray 3 (Active Intelligence) and Ray 7 (Synthesis, Order, and Beauty). The "Great Architect of the Universe," a Masonic name for Ray 3 (the creative mind), helps us build (through thought-forms) new foundations in matter. Ray 7, also called the "Creator of Form," fuses, blends, and coordinates the movement of Spirit (the fire of ideas) as it enters matter. Ray 7 (under which the nature spirits are directed) works directly with physical forms/dense matter, and its purpose is to bring forth into visibility (appearance) all latent Spiritual qualities that have previously been hidden.
All the above forces and energies are available to humanity each year as the Summer Solstice begins. In the months to come and via the influences of the Cardinal Cross signs we will not only be affected by the Moon and Neptune, Cancer's rulers, but we will also be responsive to Mars (the uses of conflict), Mercury (the light of intuition), the cosmic pull of Uranus, the intellect of Venus, and the restructuring opportunities of Saturn. We will be changed.
